Exosome therapy is the newest option on our treatment list, and it is the one clients ask the most basic questions about. Fair enough. PRF is easy to explain because everyone understands a blood draw. Exosomes need a little more setup.

The short version

Exosomes are tiny particles that cells release, and they are generally described as messengers, a way for one cell to pass signals to another. The exosomes used in this treatment are lab-derived rather than taken from your body. They arrive as a prepared product.

In a session, they are applied to the skin along with microneedling. The needling creates the channels; the exosomes go in through them. If that structure sounds familiar, it should. It is the same delivery logic behind PRF microneedling, with a different material going into the same openings.

What a session looks like

Plan on about an hour. There is no blood draw and no centrifuge step, which is the practical difference clients notice first on the schedule. Topical numbing, microneedling, exosomes applied to the treated skin.

Results tend to show up within days and continue improving over the following weeks. That two-stage pattern is typical of regenerative treatments: an early visible change, then slower structural improvement as the skin does its own work.

Exosomes or PRF?

This is the real question, and there is not a universal answer. A few honest points of comparison:

  • Source. PRF comes from your own blood, with no additives and no anticoagulants. Exosomes are produced in a lab. For some clients that distinction settles the question in one direction or the other, and that is a legitimate basis for choosing.
  • Time in the chair. Exosome therapy runs about an hour. PRF microneedling adds the draw and the spin to the front of the appointment.
  • Timing of results. Exosome results are often described within days. PRF microneedling clients typically plan on 3 to 4 sessions a few weeks apart, with the effect accumulating across the series.
  • What is bothering you. The concern you are treating matters more than the material. That is a conversation with your provider, not a decision to make from a website.

If you want to read about the PRF side before you come in, the PRF microneedling page covers the protocol, and PRF vs PRP explains where PRF sits among the blood-derived options.

What we will not tell you

Exosome therapy is new enough that the internet is full of confident claims about it. We are not going to add to that pile. We will not quote you a percentage improvement, promise a specific outcome, or cite studies at you to close a sale. What we will do is explain what the treatment involves, tell you what clients here have experienced, and be direct if we think a different treatment is a better fit for your skin.

Every client starts with a consultation for exactly that reason.

Who performs it

Stephanie is our provider. She is a registered dental hygienist with an AAS in Dental Hygiene from Pima Community College, earned in 2009, and a BAS in Dental Hygiene from Northern Arizona University, earned in 2011. She began PRF facial esthetics training through the CARE program in 2024. Hygiene is precise work done in a small space with someone's face inches away, and the habits that come with it, steady hands and constant explanation of what is happening next, carry over.

That shows up in reviews more than anything about technology does. A Martinez wrote: "She's got such a light hand. She made sure I was comfortable and she took the time to explain every step." Carla Noriega said something similar about her first microneedling appointment: "I was a little scared, but Stephanie made sure I was comfortable and explained everything."

Why regenerative treatments make sense in this climate

Tucson's air is dry nearly all year, and dry air is hard on skin. Moisture leaves faster than it does in most of the country, and what that looks like in the mirror is dullness, rough texture and fine lines that seem to show up overnight. Treatments aimed at hydration and texture are more relevant here than they would be somewhere humid, which is a large part of why our clients ask about this category at all.

None of that means exosome therapy is the answer for you specifically. It means the category is worth understanding if you live in the desert.
